Hey everyone! I will be helping communicate between Patience Johnson and the Harvest family. I will be posting a weekly update about her time with Youth With a Mission, so stay tuned! Here is a blog from her first week in Mexico!
Dear Harvest Family,
I'm writing to tell you all about my first week here in Ensenada! I flew into the San Diego airport at about 7:30 and was greeted by some YWAM staff that I knew from this summer. It was great to see a familiar face! We arrived at the base around 10:30 that night and I got to meet my roommates and unpack. On Sunday morning we got to go to a spanish speaking church service, it was a fun experience but I couldn't understand anything! That night we had a surprise Mariachi band for supper and a Pinata!
Monday morning we started orientation which lasted most of the day. Tuesday was pretty much the same thing except for lunch time! Giezi and I went out to eat and on the way home we passed by the traveling circus! There were were tigers and panthers in the back of a caged truck! I could practically touch them! It was really cool! That night we got to go to Walmart to pick up whatever we needed. I personally like the mexican Walmart better; its cleaner then the one in St.Cloud!
On Wednesday we got to go up to Tijuana for our lectures. Our speakers were the couple that started YWAM San Diego/Baja. On Thursday the group from Tijuana came to Ensenada to listen to the new speaker. His name was Brett and he was speaking about "Intercessory Prayer." That morning during our Devotional time I was praying for a family that the Potter Family knows. I happened to be best friends with this families daughter until she died about 10 years ago. So I had been praying for them all week but this morning I asked God how do you want me to pray for them? He said Jeremiah 18! So I ran and got my Bible and flipped to Jeremiah 18 and the heading for that scripture is "At the Potter's House"! It was amazing, I ran and called Robin right away and it was total confirmation from God about what we had been praying for. That day our speaker Brett finished up the lecture on Intercessory Prayer and we got to do a Scavenger Hunt around downtown Ensenada! It was an interesting experience!
Friday night we got to go down to the Bajio (Red Light District) to do ministry. We walked around and handed out soup and hot chocolate to drug addicts, drunks, and prostitutes. We were giving more than some soup and hot chocolate to these people, we were taking the time to talk to them and show them that they are important. We got to tell them about Jesus and get help to those who wanted help. It was a very eye opening experience. Thank You again everyone for all your prayers and support! God is doing so many wonderful already and it has only been a week! I'm so excited to see what next week will bring. On Monday we will find out where we will be going for outreach phase of DTS. Once we find out we will know the official cost.
Please be praying for location and saftey! Thank you all so much! If you have any questions or are interested in seeing a daily blog talk to Rebekah Antoine or Angela Chilson they can give you some information! God Bless!!
Love,
Patience
